Linda Miles

linda-at-deskAs Assistant Director of Resources and Technology Development for Lincoln Center Institute, I have what must be the best job in the world—at least the best job for me. I oversee day-to-day operation of LCI’s Resource Center, and work on planning and facilitation of professional development around inquiry and the use of contextual materials for librarians, educators, and teaching artists. That sounds so contained and straightforward when summarized in one sentence, but it is really a very complex web of varied tasks and conversations, both practical and conceptual. The variety and complexity and messiness of it all is part of its charm.

The best part, though, has to be the opportunity to conduct research about available library resources and develop strategies for collection development, as well as supervising acquisition of new materials in different formats. Researching and purchasing materials is intrinsically something I love (who wouldn’t?), but it is especially rewarding to have a job like this in the intersecting areas of education and the arts, two areas that have long been at the center of my life. I began working in theater at fourteen, having met a boy/actor who I was sure at the time would be “the one” for me. Poor boy, I never looked back. In a former life as a theater director, I have worked with upstart theater companies and new playwrights in both Chicago and Austin, TX. I hold a master’s degree and a PhD in Theatre History/Criticism/Text/Theory from the University of Texas at Austin. I am particularly excited about sharing information about great resources via the Resource Center Blog!
